Fiddler

Fiddler is a shepherd mix from Mount Rainier, Maryland. Her owners rescued her from an abandoned house where she had crawled through a broken second-story window onto the roof, hence the name Fiddler, as in “on the roof”. Daddy writes the popular humorist blog Minor Tweaks, and Fiddler is a regular contributor. Click here to see what she has to say in her column, Off Leash.

"Whenever I meet someone new, he or she inevitably inquires about my lineage. Sometimes they guess: "Some German Shepherd, right? Maybe a little Collie?" Or, worse, they squat down next to me, place a hand on my head, and ask in a bright, disingenuous tone: "So ... what are you?""

"And yet there are times in life when one is pulled firmly in opposing directions -- for instance, when it is raining and I have to pee. I hate and fear the rain, yet I have to pee. What do I do?"

"These days the couch is more or less mine. Sure, I'll get down if there's a good reason -- a meaty treat, say, or an impending walk. But mostly I just lie there, as sleeping dogs tend to do."

I love his ears.

Fiddler looks so intelligent, like a human behind dogs eye. Beautiful little fella!

I understand about the rain, Fiddler. I don't fear the rain, but I do hate it. It washes away all the other dogs' pee, and I can't pee unless I am marking over someone else's mark.

I have to pee, but where to pee? A dog's life is hard.

P.S. Love your column.
