Your Questions About Bichon Poodle Mix

Laura asks…

Poodle acting weird, please help?

My Poodle went from being it happy self to sickly, slouchy self in a day. All day she has been lying down in situations when she would usually be up and barking, like when someone knocks, or a car comes in the driveway. She is also barely touching her food, even when its her favorite. Also instead of standing up-right, she kind of arcs downward and stares at the floor silently for a short time, before moving in a circle formation.

Here is a list of the symptoms:
-Slow moving
-Loss of appetite
-Sad looking
-Bad posture (Arcing downwards)

The poodles description :
-A poodlebichon-frse mix
-13 Years old
-Mostly active during the day
-Barks a lot
-Always had a small appetite

This has the first time she has acted like this, if you could give me any type of information, it would be very nice. If you need me to be clearer on something, let me know, and I’ll add it into the “More info” area.

Thank you & Happy Thanksgiving

Sarah Jones answers:

Just a bad day, could be arthritis pain or just plain feeling old. After a certain age we all slow down…I know this.IF it continues more than a couple of days see a vet but make the decision before the weekend or the vet closing.

Your Questions About Pug Beagle Boxer Mix

George asks…

Question for you breed experts?

I have a female pup that we adopted from the humane society. She’s a mixed breed and we’re really curious about what breeds she might be made up of. It doesn’t really matter because she’s a great dog and we love her, but it would just be fun to know. We did one of those DNA tests and it came back saying she’s a mix of Boxer, Pug, Chow Chow, Cocker Spaniel, and Beagle. I’ve heard those tests are unreliable and I believe it after getting the results.

The vet guessed she’s a mix between Lab and Cocker Spaniel. I think she definitely has to have some Lab in her, and maybe some kind of Retriever. She has webbed paws and that wavy pattern of hair down her back that some Labs have. She also has the fan-like tail that you see on Goldens, along with the feathering on the back of her legs. She’s 5 months old and about 30 pounds. She’s solid black with some white speckles on one of her paws. Her ears have a little bit of fluff on them. Again, this is just for fun but any educated guesses would be great!

Sarah Jones answers:

She is so adorable! I would say she def. Has spaniel in her. Those ears proove it. I would also say lab. I think the vet is right.

And lol on those DNA tests. My friend’s dad is a vet and they did the DNA test on their dog just for fun. They know that her dog Aaleia is half golden retriever and half rough collie (both parents are resitered purebreeds) and the test said she was beagle, retriever, spaniel lab and poodel!

Your Questions About Happy Dog Sonoma

Daniel asks…

Ugliest dog contest 2008?

Its coming up next week! I always got a kick out of watching it on TV and might even cruise by the fair this weekend. I am looking at some of the photos. Some of the dogs don’t look very healthy. I am so happy that these dogs are able to go to loving homes, despite the fact they truly have a face that only a mother or a saint could love, right? But doesn’t it seem like some of these dogs are being exploited by the owners for the $1000 prize? Or do you think that contests like these encourage people to consider adopting a “less than cute” dog? I guess I am a little torn. What are some of your thoughts?

http://www.sonoma-marinfair.org/uglydogvote08.shtml
And just for sh*ts and giggles, who is your pick to win this year after flipping through the contestants? I’m going through them now…
I’m torn between Squiggy and Pee Wee Martini! I too, love the idea of the money going to a shelter. I wonder if any of them consider that?

Sarah Jones answers:

I’ll look at it in a second…

Some of the stories are great though, I watched it last year. They’re a little heartbreaking. So many rescued because they were unwanted due to health problems or whatever, so many emergencies. And they pull through. But the prize money should be donated in my opinion, because otherwise it’s just basically a beauty contest (except in opposite). Before long BYB’s will have “World’s Ugliest Dog Quality” pups.

Your Questions About Pictures Baby Pitbull Puppies

Carol asks…

How old is my pitbull puppy?

I adopted my blue pitbull from the humane society about a month ago. They told me he was 6 months and all of his papers say 6 months. However we think he might be younger. It’s bothering me that I don’t know his exact age- i would like to know what month to celebrate his birthday! Here is some info about him. If you know anything about pitbulls or just dogs/puppies in general please tell me what you think!

He’s 32 pounds. He DEFINITELY demonstrates puppy behavior. He is VERY playful and loves to chew on things (mostly our hands! he has not learned “NO BITES” yet… ouch). I don’t know anything about teething but a friend of mine looked in his mouth and she said he is teething judging by how the gums/teeth look. He has not lost any teeth yet that i’ve seen… but maybe that’s because he already lost them all…?? I read on google that puppies lose baby teeth around 4 months. Soo either he’s 6 months and already lost them, or he’s 4 months and about to start losing them. I have no clue! Also, he is pretty much fully potty trained. He does have an accident here and there, but for the most part he knows to go outside. Here are some pictures of him-

in the second picture if you look closely at his teeth, it looks like one is just now breaking through the gum. i just noticed this. that pretty much confirms to me that he is currently teething. so about how old does that make him??

your feedback is greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance

Sarah Jones answers:

Well he looks very much like when I for my Gracie at 3months. So he looks about 3 or 4 months.

Also the 6 month old red nosed Pitt we had for humane society she is 6 months and is bigger than your Pitt.
